God would have us first know by experience our own wretched state - as unfit vessels! It is, however, wrong for a soul to fear anything except offending God. There is nothing to fear so long as we walk truthfully in His Majesty’s presence with a clean conscience. But what soul is upright enough to please Him entirely? Here lies the reason for our fear.
Is there anything else that You do, O Lord, that is not for the greater good of that soul which You know to be already Yours, and which places itself in Your power to follow You wherever You go, even to death on the Cross, and which is determined to help You carry that Cross and not to leave You alone with it? No one who discerns this resolution in himself or herself has anything to fear.- Saint Teresa of Avila
